A horse which had wandered out onto a rural road in Oxenhope was struck so violently by a passing vehicle that it was decapitated.
The accident happened on Moor Side Lane, and police say the black horse was struck by at least two vehicles after it had wandered onto the road at around 7pm.
The road was described as being “covered with debris”, and police confirmed that the animal had been decapitated.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said, ‘A grey BMW Estate car travelling towards Penistone Hill hit the horse first, and then a second car travelling in the other direction also struck it.
